How the golf card game scores

Each deal is a hole. Your score for the hole is the total of the cards left in front of you when the hand ends.

Kings are zero, aces are one, and twos count minus two. Everything from three to ten is face value, and jacks and queens are ten.

Lowest total after nine deals wins, exactly like golf. Minus scores are good.

The pair rule is the whole game

Two matching cards in the same column cancel each other out and score zero for that column, whatever they are.

That is why a pair of queens is better than a pair of aces: both score zero, but the queens took twenty points off the table.

Variations

Six-card golf is the common version. Four-card is quicker and nine-card is longer.

Some groups play with jokers at minus two or minus five, and some add a knock penalty. The sheet has check boxes for the layout and the jokers.

Large print

Check the large print box when you customize and the scoring grid comes out with noticeably bigger type and taller rows, which most people find easier to read across a table.

The grid is what grows. Reference panels and the fine print stay at their normal size, so nothing gets squeezed off the page, and the sheet still holds a sensible number of rounds.
